C-TRAN Board Lifts Fares

Vancouver, Washington -- The C-TRAN Board of Directors last night voted to make the entire transit system's service fare-free for the 21-day closure of the northbound span of the I-5 bridge. The closure, set to begin on September 16, is expected to create major traffic disruptions for both commuter and local traffic.

The fare-free offer, coupled with an extensive expansion of C-TRAN service and priority lanes for transit and carpools on I-5 and I-205, is a further incentive for commuters to make another choice, other than a single-occupant vehicle during the repairs.

"This is an emergency situation. The C-TRAN Board of Directors want to step up and make it as easy and convenient as possible for people to have a better choice for 21 days, rather than getting in their cars," said C-TRAN Board of Directors Chair Rose Besserman. "We also realize that given the magnitude of the traffic, we will have major traffic problems on the arterials of our community. That's why we make this fare-free offer available system-wide."

The fare-free offer will apply to all 32 C-TRAN routes, the additional I-5 an I-205 temporary routes, C-VAN paratransit service and the C-TRAN vanpool program.
