After a slight delay in closing the northbound structure, the southbound structure is finally carrying both directions.
Everyone is amazed at how troublefree the commute is, and just how few vehicles were crossing the bridge.

A crisis that wasn't. All morning, the bridge was far below capacity. Motorists were repeatedly reminded that the left lane was not HOV-only in order to prevent backups behind an empty lane.

The project definitely had a dark and stormy edge to it as it first got underway. This shot shows northbound traffic crossing over into the southbound lanes just prior to crossing the bridge.

Lowering the second pulley system into place on the northwest tower -- a major milestone. Shortly before, it was announced that perhaps Monday morning's commute would see the bridge reopened. The rate of progress at this point is astounding. "All" that's left is testing the pulleys, placing and connecting the cables, and testing everything together.
