Vancouver HOVProject Concluded...The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has decided to conclude the I-5 Vancouver High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane pilot project and convert the lane back to general purpose use by all vehicles effective Monday, August 6, 2005. The I-5 HOV lane first opened on October 29, 2001.
The WSDOT deliberated on the recommendation over the summer and conducted a careful examination of the evaluation reports and state policy on HOV facilities. In a letter to the RTC Board on August 2nd, the WSDOT stated that it “concurs with the RTC recommendation to conclude the Vancouver HOV pilot project and will be converting the lane back to a general purpose lane by August 6, 2005.” In a WSDOT press release dated August 2, Mr. Wagner said that, "This decision was not made lightly, "It came after thorough review of the data in the six evaluation reports of the HOV lane's performance since the pilot project began in 2001, and after taking into consideration the recommendations made by both the Bi-state Commission and the RTC Board." This site will continue to provide extensive information about the I-5 HOV lane and includes lane history, evaluation data, news and an opportunity to submit your comments and thoughts about the lane. Participating Agencies...Many organizations worked together to develop and test the I-5 HOV Pilot Project:
